The Wizard!

A whimsical wanderer who endeavors to bring moments of joy to those they encountered and invite them to participate in scenes of absurd silliness.

I originally created this character for a regional Burning Man festival where I wandered through the event with a mystical glowing staff, making prognostications and grand gestures to amuse the attendees. While walking around one evening I was approached by an excited festival goer who said “Great Wizard! Do you have a quest for me?” I did not have anything prepared but thought of a simple “seek and do” quest to send them on. They were to find the flowers made of flame and perform a short poem for those gathered beneath them.

The Quests

No wizard is complete without quests to hand out to adventurers! I wrote short whimsical poems related to the installation I was directing festival goers to.

Example Quest: Wizards love orbs. It’s a fact of life as inviolable as the sun rising every morning or of the old ones eventually waking from eons of slumber to conquer the human race. What was I saying? Orbs! Of course! Seek the ephemeral sphere. Slow your magical heart, breathe deeply, and be the orb you want to see in the world.

Example Quest: Embrace the light fantastic, morph your psyche into potent chaos, and create a dynamic dance of light and sound. Breathe through your narrative and gain wizardly calm and enlightenment in this world of your own making.
